The human eye is under assault! Images! Images! Images! Everywhere they abound but how can we determine which is more valuable than the rest? Also, how do we place value on an image? Is it priceless? Is it “worth ten thousand words?” A couple million? Do some images qualify as works of art while others are simply trite reproductions? These questions aim to be answered in this manifesto entitled ART $MART: THE SELLING OF THE IMAGE.
The need for such a manifesto cannot be understated. At this juncture in time visual culture studies are in the murderous process of nullifying the notion of “Art” (the bastards!) Because of this fact I contend in this manifesto that images can be judged solely on their worth in the free-market/capitalistic/evil system at large.
What we demand of our art:
Aesthetic value is in the eye of the beholder. When looking at an image be an individual not a sheep in determining its worth. Consider the ideals of beauty and degree of difficulty in its creation null and antiquated.
The image is only as important as its dollar value.
Do not tolerate bullshit notions of value. Rewrite them!
For Example:
GOOD
BETTER
4. Art critics= bullshit artists. Don't lsiten to their shit. Don't read their shit. Don't buy into their shit.
5. Authorial intention = double shot of bullshit. The author has not context, relevance, or position in the work. Barthes was right on with "The Death of the Author." We dig it.
